Welcome to Singapore, where sleek skyscrapers soar above a city blooming with nature and food is practically a national pastime.
While many visit for a quick stopover, it’s easy to stay longer and still find plenty to explore. Whether you're en route to Thailand’s tropical beaches or venturing towards the wild landscapes of Australasia, we’re here to help you make the most of your time. In just 48 hours, you’ll discover iconic landmarks, hidden gems and a whole lot of local flavour. We’ve mapped out the ideal mix of culture, adventure and moments to relax.
Day 1: Singapore sights and city adventures
A morning in Chinatown
Start your day in Chinatown, beginning at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, an ornate structure that’s just as impressive inside as it is from the street. Wander through the intricately decorated halls and find a moment of zen in the hidden rooftop garden.
Just a few steps away, you'll stumble upon Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore’s oldest Hindu temple, adorned with colourful mythological figures. If you're lucky, you might catch a Hindu ceremony in action.
To dive deeper into Chinatown’s culture, join a tea-tasting workshop at Yixing Xuan Teahouse, one of the city’s last remaining traditional teahouses. Sample exquisite Chinese teas like Oolong, Jasmine and Pu-erh, while learning the delicate art of tea preparation.
Hidden Gem: While in the area, stop by Keong Saik Road, a hip stretch packed with quirky cafes and indie boutiques that are pure Instagram gold.
Lunch: Liao Fan Hawker Chan
For an early lunch, tuck into a meal at Liao Fan Hawker Chan, the first hawker stall in the world to receive a Michelin star. Opt for their famous soy sauce chicken with rice – a flavour-packed dish that costs less than 10 SGD. Delicious and budget-friendly, it’s an absolute must-try.
Afternoon: Singapore River and Clarke Quay
Take a leisurely walk along the Singapore River to the Boat Quay, where you’ll be greeted by a lively stretch of riverside bars and colourful shophouses. Continue towards Clarke Quay, a bustling riverside hub that was once the city’s centre for trade. For a different perspective, board a river cruise and take in the city’s landmarks from the water, then beeline back to your hotel to freshen up.
Late afternoon: High tea at Raffles, Marina Bay Sands & Gardens by the Bay
Dress to impress and start your evening early with Afternoon Tea at Raffles Hotel. Sip Champagne and savour bite-sized treats – pastries, finger sandwiches and dainty scones – presented beautifully on a silver three-tier stand.
As the day fades, head up to the SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands and catch a surreal sunset with sweeping views of Singapore’s skyline. Then stroll over to Gardens by the Bay for the Garden Rhapsody Light Show at Supertree Grove. Time it right and get in line for the OCBC Skyway about half an hour before the show begins, and you’ll have a unique vantage point as the Supertrees light up in time with the music. Finish the day with a cocktail back at your hotel – a Singapore Sling makes for a classic city nightcap.
Expert Tip: A lesser-known viewpoint is the Sky Garden at Capita Spring, a rooftop oasis near Marina Bay Sands. Entry is free, but you’ll need to book ahead.
Day 2: Nature, shopping and a walk through history
Morning: Singapore Botanic Gardens
Begin your morning with a peaceful stroll through the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Be sure to visit the National Orchid Garden, with its stunning collection of over 1,000 hybrid species. Arriving early will give you the best light for photos and a chance to spot locals practising Tai Chi.
Mid-Morning: National Museum of Singapore
Next, explore Singapore’s rich history at the National Museum of Singapore. This museum provides a fascinating glimpse into the city’s journey from a humble trading post to an economic powerhouse.
Lunch: Dempsey Hill
Dempsey Hill, a green oasis filled with charming restaurants, is a great stop for a refuelling lunch. We recommend the banana leaf curries at Samy’s Curry Restaurant, washed down with a smooth Tiger beer.
Afternoon: Spa or pool time
After lunch, take some time to relax at your hotel. Unwind with a rejuvenating spa session or a refreshing dip in the pool.
Evening: Shopping & sky-high dining
Head to Orchard Road, the glamorous shopping street, where luxury malls and high-street brands line the squeaky-clean boulevard. End up your night on a high at 1-Atico, located at the top of ION Orchard. Sip creative happy hour cocktails in the stylish lounge, then, move over to FLNT, the Japanese-Peruvian restaurant, for a decadent tasting menu that blends bold Japanese flavours with Peruvian flair.
Not ready to call it a night? Check out Holland Village, a trendy local haunt known for its buzzing nightlife and laid-back bars.
Bonus: Sentosa Island
Got extra time? Hop in a taxi or take the Cable Car to Sentosa Island and unleash your inner child. Get your heart racing at Universal Studios Singapore™ or zoom down the flumes at Adventure Cove Waterpark.
Despite all the action, Sentosa actually means ‘tranquillity’, so there’s plenty of downtime to be found too. Kick back on the soft sands of Siloso Beach, stroll around historical military battle ruins on the Imbiah Trail and wrap up with the dazzling fireworks and light show, Wings of Time.

Good to know
Getting around:
Use the MRT for quick, efficient travel across the city. Grab an EZ-Link card to make public transport easier and save money. Also, download the Grab app, Singapore’s equivalent of Uber, for a hassle-free way to get around by car.
Best time to visit:
February to April is the dry season, making it an ideal time for clear skies and outdoor adventures. That said, you can visit Singapore any time of year – just be prepared for hot, humid weather and pack light, breathable clothing.
Travel costs:
Singapore may be one of the world’s most expensive cities, but you can stretch your budget. Dine at hawker centres for delicious local food at affordable prices and check out free attractions like art galleries and museums.
Follow the local laws:
Singapore’s strict regulations keep the city well-organised and clean. Avoid bringing chewing gum or e-cigarettes into the country and remember not to eat or drink on public transport or litter – fines can be hefty.
Singapore Airport - Changi:
Don’t miss a stop at Jewel Changi Airport, home to the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, the Rain Vortex. Surrounded by lush greenery, the 40-metre waterfall is a mesmerising sight, especially when lit up at night. It’s easily accessible from all terminals and well worth a visit, whether you’re arriving or departing.
How to get there
Flying direct to Singapore is a breeze with Singapore Airlines. Settle in for a comfortable flight, dining on gourmet cuisine and sipping on whites and reds handpicked by wine critics, while catching up on blockbuster movies and TV shows.
