Described by President Truman as America’s ‘second best address,’ The Mayflower is part of Marriot Group’s Autograph Collection and is a must-see hotel housed in landmark building close to national landmarks.

Check in at the Mayflower and you are about the spend the night at one of America’s most storied hotels. Almost 100 years old, and with a place on America’s National Register of Historic Places, the Mayflower’s stock in trade is history, prestige and, naturally, a little scandal. The Grand Ballroom has hosted many an inaugural ball, and countless silver-screen stars, dignitaries, and royalty – including The Queen – have put dents in its pillows. Serial lunch patron J Edgar Hoover is honoured with an eponymous restaurant. The 581 rooms are standard hotel fare, though extremely comfortable, and each features a ‘signature wall’ scribed with the names of visitors, including John F Kennedy, Amelia Earhart, and Winston Churchill. Complementing the American-style brasserie, Edgar, is the fun Toslon Bird Bar, where diners can order a bucket of southern-style fried chicken served with caviar and a bottle of Taittinger Champagne. The Mayflower puts guests within striking distance of The National Mall and popular Georgetown, and nearby are the Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom neighbourhoods, and the after-hours hotspot, U Street. Some might say you’ve not ‘done’ Washington until you’ve seen the Mayflower and we’re inclined to agree.
