Ko'a Kea Hotel & Resort

An intimate hotel - perfect for romance

An ever-popular hotel on Kauai’s beautiful South Shore that is perfect for couples and honeymooners.

With its blink-and-you’ll-miss-it entrance this hotel has a bit of a hidden-away air about it. Although not strictly boutique hotel, the Ko’a Kea has a small hotel vibe about it, especially when you compare it to its bigger and livelier neighbours. If you want a romantic escape but still want to make the most of a beach resort setting, this is the place for you. The hotel is centred on a free-form pool, lava rock hot tub  and thatched beach bar and from here it’s just a few steps to the sheltered, rocky cove with some small waves; it’s a great location if you want to try out surfing but would rather not face the big rollers this part of the world is known for.

Why we love Ko'a Kea Hotel & Resort

  • Watch the sun sink into the Pacific Ocean as you enjoy a private six-course meal on Poipu Beach

  • Head to the spa for a traditional Lomi Lomi massage or a soothing aloe vera facial

  • Explore the coastline by traditional outrigger canoe or kayak the Wailua River

  • As well as daily yoga sessions, you can take a lesson in the art of hula dancing

Red Salt is the hotel’s main restaurant and the focus here is on providing mouthwatering Hawaiian dishes from prime steaks to catch-of-the-day sea food. The executive chef was born and raised on the island so knows where to source the best and freshest produce. Following dinner, and once the sun’s gone down, one of the best spots to be is by one of the hotel’s cosy fire pits that are surrounded by Adirondack chairs.

Red Salt
The hotel's main restaurant which is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The focus here is on locally sourced produce, fresh sea food caught that day and meat reared on the island.

Sushi Bar & Lounge
This is the place to try some incredible Hawaiian-inspired sushi dishes.

Pool Bar
For day time drinks and classic grill dishes by the pool.

Packed with local flavours and served with a mango and chive hollandaise sauce, the Lobster Benedict is a popular choice at Red Salt.

Using natural and indigenous botanicals in their treatments, The Spa at Ko'a Kea is a tranquil oasis for some well-deserved pampering. Try a traditional Hawaiian Lomu Lomu massage, a healing salt rock facial or a papaya and hibiscus exfoliation. If you prefer, unwind with a massage in an oceanside cabana.

As well as a fitness centre there are daily yoga sessions.

Learn how to hula, head to Poipu Shopping Village for some retail therapy, watch the force of nature at the Spouting Horn blowhole or explore the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail - famed for its Lithifield Sand Dunes.

The adventure centre can arrange snorkelling, stand-up paddleboarding and surfing. Kayak along the Wailua River or explore the coastline in a traditional outrigger canoe or by catamaran.

Tee off at Poipu Bay Golf Course or at The Ocean Course at Hokuala.

It is standard practice for resorts/hotels within the USA to charge a mandatory resort fee which is payable locally.

This fee can be anywhere between 5USD to 40 USD per room per night and is not included in the cost of your Kuoni holiday.
