The Garland

Retro Hollywood glamour

The Garland has a playful indie resort feel that leans towards lawn games, yoga and rosé all day.

Family-owned since Universal Studios actress Beverly Garland stumbled upon this Spanish colonial-style building back in the '70s, The Garland is home to the prettiest of swimming pools and lots of laidback valley vibes. Interiors are a power anthem to soulful and retro Golden State style, with tan leather sofas, bohemian curiosities and a crackling fire. The 257 bedrooms have quirky throwback feels and although located just off the freeway, it’s a seven-acre oasis of a gorgeous pool and an outdoor movie screen that springs to life on summer nights.

Why we love The Garland

  • True to its Tinseltown roots, this Valley setting is in the heart of Studio City, with Universal Studios on the doorstep and the Warner Bros. Studio tour just beyond that.

  • It might have a nostalgic aesthetic but The Garland is clued up on green initiatives

  • There's a free trolley service to Universal Studios and Citywalk

  • Fairy-lit spaces and roaring fires merge with Hollywood history and mid-century style

Feel-good Cali cuisine comes courtesy of The Front Yard restaurant where drinks are all hibiscus, strawberry and lemon and a sleek fire pit warms the soul. The Lobby Bar.

The Front Yard
We love the patio setting of The Front Yard where homely meals are served and meant for sharing. There's also a 'to go' menu.

The Lobby Bar
Named after the owner, Beverly's Martini menu is a popular choice but also look out for the pop-up menus to try something different.

At weekends you can join the Reverse Happy Hour where prohibition-inspired cocktails are served from 11pm.

Head to The Gym where you can work out any time day or night. Fitness sessions from a top LA trainer can also be arranged.

Check out The Garland's activity schedule to see what's on. Head to the pool at sunset to watch a movie, join a walking tour of the hotel's art collection or take the complimentary trolley to Universal Studios.

Lounge by the retro-inspired setting of the pool. Throughout the summer at sunset you can also watch a classic movie here.

PressReader digital magazines, 90% LED lighting, sustainable toiletries and an on-site vegetable and herb garden are just some of the green initiatives at The Garland.
