In a quiet corner of Playa del Carmen this luxurious adults-only (and couples only from January 2025) boutique hotel is the first in the world to be certified as Biosphere-Smart.

The 81 generously proportioned suites wouldn’t look out of place in an interiors magazine. They are decorated in a sophisticated palette of soft greys punctuated by touches of mauve, green or turquoise, with stylish, modern designer furniture and sleek bathrooms featuring volcanic stone walls. As with all the accommodation, the open-plan Classic Suite has a terrace and a separate living space. The larger Deluxe Suite is perfect for two couples thanks to its two bedrooms, and it even has a private Jacuzzi. As its name suggests, the Junior Pool Suite looks out over the chic swimming pool; if you’d rather have panoramic sea views, opt for the Excellence Atlantic Suite instead.

The Wellness and Beauty Centre offers a range of bespoke treatments with scented oil massages and chocolate wraps. Afterwards, head to the dynamic pool that pumps water jets from the waterfall. For those wishing to keep up their fitness regime, there is a gym with weights, treadmills, indoor cycles and vibration platforms.

Explore the southern coastline by catamaran, take an e-bike and tour through the vineyards and volcanoes, hike through the volcanic landscapes or go wine, tapas or craft beer tasting.

At this Biosphere-Smart certified hotel geothermal energy powers the air-conditioning, intelligent systems control the lighting and rock pool materials supply natural insulation. Pools are heated in winter by solar panels and the hotel has an ‘A’ label energy certificate. Technology has resulted in a building that consumes four times less energy and four times fewer carbon emissions than any non-sustainable hotel of a similar size. The hotel grows its own herbs and seasonings and lots of the restaurant's produce is sourced from Lanzarote's organic Finca Machinda farm.

Guests over 18 years are welcome at this hotel; from 2025, the hotel will become couples only.
