Day 1

Hoi An to Quy Nhon

After an early breakfast at Anantara Hoi An, you’ll transfer to Da Nang railway station, where your train (and specifically The Vietage carriage) will be waiting. The train eases away from the station at 8am, travelling south on a scenic route through central Vietnam. Accommodating just 12 passengers, each couple has their own private booth with sliding rattan screens. Enjoy warm pastries and coffee – perhaps a traditional Vietnamese variety made with coconut – as you settle into the six-hour journey. You’ll leave the city behind, entering a land of emerald-green rice fields. For part of the journey, you’ll have a coastal view on one side and the mountains on the other.\n\nIt’s a delightfully slow journey. The train doesn’t exceed 45 miles per hour, so there’s time to appreciate the scenery and observe the everyday lives of the Vietnamese people as you go. A three-course menu is served for lunch. The dishes are a delightful blend of Vietnamese, French, and international flavours, with an extensive wine list to find the perfect pairing. If you’re celebrating, rare vintage wines and champagnes can be pre-ordered for an additional charge. Later in the journey, slip away for a head and shoulder treatment, further relaxing you ahead of arrival. Or perhaps you’ll find a seat at the crescent-shaped marble bar, indulging in the free-flowing drinks and enjoying conversation with your fellow passengers. When the train reaches Dieu Tri station, you’ll disembark and take the final 30-minute leg of the journey by car to reach the serenely decadent Anantara Quy Nhon Villas.
