Northern Vietnam – suggested itinerary

This is a great introduction to the main sights of Northern Vietnam but there are plenty of ways to adapt this itinerary and personalise it to your interests, including staying at your choice of hotels and adding in additional experiences. We recommend adding this itinerary before exploring Central Vietnam or choosing one of the beach resorts on the east or southern coasts.

Days 1-3

Hanoi

Hanoi has eclectic architecture and lively yet chic vibe, and there's no better way to get to know a city than with your own private car with local guide. They'll take you to the sights you'd most like to see and make recommendations based on their insider knowledge of Hanoi and insight from a local's perspective. Head to the narrow streets of the Old Quarter for street food or try a Vietnamese cooking class.

Day 4

Halong Bay

Enchanting Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site area of natural beauty, known locally as 'dragon descending to the sea'. We've included an overnight cruise in a traditional junk as it's the best way to experience the bay's stunning beauty. Activities include swimming, a cooking demonstration and a cave visit and you'll enjoy tasty local cuisine on board.
