Tuscan Riviera holidays are stylish seaside resorts with a little bit of medieval thrown into the mix.
It’s all laid-back beach vibes, salty air and mouthwatering plates of fritto misto on Tuscan Riviera holidays. There’s that first morning flinging open your French windows for those far-reaching coastal views and then a dip in your rooftop pool before stepping out onto golden sands where colourful rows of deckchairs and parasols are lined up exclusively for guests.
Whether it’s the nostalgic 1920’s Art Noveau architecture in Viareggio, the downtown designer boutiques of Forte dei Marmi or a night under the stars watching a Puccini opera, holidays to the Tuscan Riviera are the chance to discover quintessential Italian seaside resorts holidaying like the aristocrats and artists who’ve been coming here for years. Less than an hour and a half from Florence and Pisa you’re in prime position for iconic city day trips with enough time to make it back for Michelin-starred dining at Grand Hotel Principe Di Piemonte’s Il Piccolo Principe.
Calm waters and safe swimming make Tuscany’s coast ideal for family holidays and a heady day at one of Forte dei Marmi’s super luxe beach clubs has you following in the footsteps of the jet set crowd – think private cabana hire by the sea before a Champagne seafood dinner as the sun sets over the Med. If you like things a little more medieval, there’s the Renaissance walls of historic Lucca and the ancient town of Pietrasanta – an evocative hub of artist studios and marble production where legend has it, Michelangelo exported prized marble slabs by mule and horse to use in those ever-so famous sculptures.
If you're looking for a charming Italian beach break, give one of our Personal Travel Experts a call and we’ll craft your Tuscan Riviera holiday.

Where is the Tuscan Riviera?
You’ll find the Tuscan Riviera north of Pisa and west of Lucca, in northern Tuscany on the Versilia Coast.
Viareggio
The popular seaside resort of Viareggio is the Riviera’s largest town and offers long stretches of golden sands and plenty of Liberty-style buildings and Art Nouveau architecture. Spend your days at the beach, and the shops and cafés lining the seafront promenade, before joining in the town’s vibrant evening passegiata. Escape the sun in Pineta di Ponente’s large pinewood park or cycle along the edge of the forest to Villa Puccini – the ancient residence of renowned composer Giacomo Puccini – in its pretty lakeside setting on the shores of Lake Massaciuccoli.
Getting around
With most of your time spent at the beach, there’s not much need for public transport. Most of the sights can be reached by foot or you can hire bicycles to explore further afield, be it Torre de Lago or Pineta di Ponente. Taxi or bus will take you to Forte dei Marmi and on to Pietrasanta.
Food & drink
Summer brings light and fresh dishes by day and more intricate seafood menus by night. Make sure to have lunch at Puccini’s favourite – Café Margherita - and book dinner at Michelin starred Il Piccolo Principe at Grand Hotel Principe Di Piemonte. Expect excellent pasta and pizza dishes at local trattorias away from Viareggio’s promenade and fantastic water’s edge restaurants in Forte dei Marmi.
