Amalfi Holidays
Hillside lemon groves, emerald green caves and whitewashed houses – Amalfi holidays are a luxurious escape from the real world.
There’s that gravity defying Amalfi Drive along precipitous cliffs as the road slivers through towering cliffs while pastel-coloured towns drop down towards cobalt seas. Then there’s a spectacular raft ride through the malachite waters of Conca de' Marini Bay’s emerald grottoes under a world of stalagmitic structures. And high up in the hills of Mills Valley are those famous Amalfi lemon groves. This overly pretty town may be tiny but make no mistake; Amalfi holidays pack a big punch.
Your first step out onto the sun kissed pool terrace of your 13th-Century converted monastery hotel will have you contemplating your iconic cliffside setting somewhere between blue skies and deep Mediterranean waters. A relaxing amble down to the old town for a caffè schekerato in the bustling Piazza del Duomo will soon find you exploring a maze of passageways darting off the square. But holidays to Amalfi should also be experiences at the water’s edge, watching as the red and green striped fishing boats bring home plucked-from-the-water seafood to enjoy with a limoncelleo or two at Marina Grande.
There are a smattering of historic monuments – the 9th-Century Arab-Sicilian Cathedral, the Cloister del Paradiso and the Museum of Paper (even the Vatican order their paper from Amalfi) – but ultimately, this is the place to come when you need to drop your shoulders for a while, finally finish reading that book and fancy joining the locals, who undoubtedly know how to do laid-back living in style.
Give one of our experts a call and we’ll start creating your dream Amalfi holiday.

Where is Amalfi?
In the heart of the Amalfi coast in southern Italy on the Gulf of Salerno, Amalfi sits in between Positano and Vietri sul Mare and is south of Naples.
Exploring Amalfi
In the heart of the UNESCO-listed Amalfi Coast and with breathtaking views over the Gulf of Salerno, this tiny town is a great place to use as a base to explore more of the Neapolitan Riviera. In the historic town, at Piazza del Duomo, you’ll find those famous sixty steps that lead up to the grand entrance of St. Andrew Cathedral. At the top of the town, you’ll find the Museum of Paper housed inside an ancient paper mill. Amalfi takes its paper making seriously and its long-established handmade paper is still used by artists around the world.
Beaches
Marina Grande Beach is where all the action takes place if you want to sunbathe and dip into shimmering seas, and just a little way past Amalfi, the beach of Duoglio is worth a visit too.
Getting around
Amalfi is a tiny town that is completely walkable, although you should expect steep hills and cobblestoned streets. Ferries and SITA buses can take you to neighbouring villages such as Ravello and if walking gets too much, buses and taxis are available. The Metro del Mare connects you on water to most towns along the Neapolitan Riviera and Capri. If you want to make the most of Amalfi’s scenic coastline, we recommend hiring a car
Food & drink
There’s an emphasis on fresh seafood and local vegetables, and of course that famous after dinner limencello. Creamy cakes flavoured with lemons are the sweetest of treats – ask for delize al limone. Expect to find lots of cosy late-night restaurants, kid friendly menus and of course, splendid terraces with those outstanding views. Order scialleti with seafood to try specially made Amalfi pasta, grab a famous Neapolitan pizza for great food-on-the-go and look out for those gorgeous restaurants under a sea of lemon trees where you can while away a night with catch-of-the-day fish and a fine Campania wine.
Multi-centres
You can also experience one of the world's most breathtaking drives along the renowned Amalfi Coast where a thin ribbon of road zig zags up and down the steep coastal hillside offering mesmerising views. Hire a car to discover this beautiful region at leisure.
