A unique and luxurious property that combines local influences with the traditional décor of an African safari lodge.
Located alongside a lagoon among the dunes and backing an otherwise deserted beach, Uga Chena Huts sits close to the gates of Yala National Park and is the perfect getaway for luxury-seeking wildlife lovers. Each full day of your stay includes a game drive (6am or 3pm), accompanied by your own knowledgeable expert ranger/guide. Between safaris, there’s enough to keep you occupied at the hotel itself, whether it's lounging by the main pool or on the beach, retreating to your cabin to soak up the sounds of nature or treating yourself to a massage at the small on-site spa.
Why we love Uga Chena Huts
-
It’s in a fantastic secluded setting in the dunes just steps from the ocean, and not far from the gates of Yala National Park
-
All Inclusive here means not just your meals and drinks, but also daily game drives in the company of an expert park ranger
-
With just 18 luxuriously spacious and elegantly rustic pool villas arranged across seven acres, a feeling of privacy is guaranteed
-
You can create special memories with dinner under the stars by firelight or an indulgent ritual for two in the superb small spa
This resort has earned internationally recognised certification that conform to standards set by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
Rooms
The concept here is inspired by the centuries-old practice of farming small clearances, known as chenas, where farmers would sleep in huts beside their crops. While the farmer’s huts were simple in nature, the exquisite Cabins – of which there are just 18 – are a great deal more luxurious, with facilities such as a plunge pool and a deep soaking tub. For complete privacy, each cabin is beautifully secluded within the sand dunes and bush scrub… perfection.
Facilities
The restaurant doubles up as a bar, but there are also plenty of spots around the grounds for a private meal for two.
The Basses
The hotel’s restaurant and bar is named after the nearby reefs and lighthouse, and has a suitably nautical interior design to match. Come here for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with dishes that take their influences from far and near, while you look out for wildlife walking along the beach.
Of all the possibilities, we think the most romantic private dining option is a firelit meal by the shore with the sand under your feet and a blanket of stars above your head.
Whats Included
All Inclusive • All meals at Basses Restaurant & Bar • Drinks including selected wine, beer and spirits • Daily morning and evening game drives and transfers to and from park entrance • Refreshments on game drives • Park entrance fees • Minibar replenished once daily.
Uga Chena Huts has a small but luxurious spa surrounded by greenery, where you can happily spend hours being pampered into a state of ultimate relaxation. There’s a particularly inviting list of therapies for two, including the signature Chena Huts Spa Ritual – 150 minutes of body scrub, Balinese massage and facial that will leave you floating on air.
There’s a desalination plant tucked away in the grounds to turn seawater into water. The hotel’s as green as its leafy surrounds: dining is locally sourced and seasonal food, green products are used throughout, and the hotel’s huts are designed in low-impact, energy-efficient style with LED lighting, solar panels and biogas units. There’s a seawater treatment plant on site, too, and guests are ferried about in electric buggies. Uga Chena Huts is a Travelife certified property.
Compulsory Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve gala dinner, supplements apply.
