Nature lovers and families will appreciate this comfortable hotel in breathtaking countryside near Udawalawe National Park.
The canopied entrance with steps leading up to a high-ceilinged lobby is certainly impressive, and the welcome ceremony – with new arrivals lighting a traditional oil lamp and feeding the koi carp in the pond – will stay in the memory for a long time. Nature, however, is not to be outdone here, and it’s hard to argue with the hotel’s claim of having the “best view in Udawalawe”. There’s unspoiled countryside everywhere you look – as in tree-carpeted rolling hills and a vast sparkling lake where wild elephants come to drink – and a rooftop terrace from which to soak it all in over a drink or a meal. We recommend spending one night here on your tailor-made Sri Lanka itinerary.
Why we love Centauria Wild
-
Udawalawe National Park, with its wild elephants, golden jackals and toque macaques, is practically on the doorstep
-
It’s in a tranquil setting overlooking an expansive lake backed by hills cloaked in satinwood, ebony and teak trees
-
Families will appreciate the accommodation options, the kids’ menus and other child-friendly facilities
-
There’s a swimming pool area that’s the perfect place to cool down after an early-morning game drive
Rooms
The 48 rooms and suites are grouped around a courtyard garden with a fountain in the middle, and all have private balconies with views over the surrounding landscape and perhaps the lake as well. They also share the same cosy, traditional style and warm colour scheme of cream, gold, copper and brown. There are four categories: the smaller Deluxe Rooms have double or two single beds, while the much larger Suites sleep four and have a separate seating area. The Presidential Suite has plenty of space to sit and take in the scenery, but those travelling with children will prefer the Family Room.
Facilities
There’s a large restaurant complete with a roof terrace and a lounge bar where you can get drinks and snacks during the day.
Restaurant
The hotel restaurant serves dishes from around the world made, as much as possible, using local ingredients. Feast on super-fresh seafood in the roomy dining room or take a table on the rooftop terrace to enjoy the views of the lake at the same time. There are plenty of child-friendly options on the menu, too.
Bar
With a pool table and a wide choice of wines, cocktails and spirits, the large lounge bar is an inviting place to linger in the evening; you can also stop by for tea and coffee during the day.
The rooftop is the perfect place to be at sunset, whether you’re having a cocktail or an early supper with the children.
Whats Included
Breakfast at the restaurant.
Upgrade Options
Half Board • Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant
Full Board • Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant.
The spa and wellness centre has a sauna and steam room along with a menu of Ayurvedic treatments and soothing massages for aching muscles.
A small fitness centre provides a selection of cardio machines and free weights. Another option is to grab one of the hotel’s bicycles for a self-guided pedal through the lush countryside.
Many of the vegetables, fruit and herbs used in the restaurant come from the hotel’s own organic garden.
With accommodation designed for them, kids’ menus and lots to explore in the local area, families will feel welcome at Centauria Wild.
Compulsory Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve gala dinners, supplements apply.
