Coffee Bungalow

A step back in time

Stay in an 1860s coffee planter’s manor perched on the forested hills above Kandy.

This historic property has been reimagined as a boutique hotel with just seven welcoming suites. The exceedingly personal service, a tip-top restaurant, and a turquoise infinity pool overlooking Kandy are considered the bungalow’s strengths by previous guests. While the decor harks from a bygone era of style (think swags and tails and ornate chandeliers), they suit this elegant bungalow down to the ground. Overall, there’s a grownup feeling here, making it particularly appealing to couples and honeymooners eyeing a characterful place to return to after exploring the attractions of Kandy. There's a really friendly atmosphere and you can look forward to learning more about the retreat's history from the owner.

Why we love Coffee Bungalow

  • The 14-metre infinity pool has a wonderful view over Kandy. And with so few guests, it’s never crowded

  • There are just seven suites, most with a view of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, and they are perfect if you love that hushed away-from-it-all feeling

  • It’s a peaceful forested setting, but not remote. Kandy’s key attractions are within easy reach

  • The small restaurant, Gilbert's, serves exquisite Sri Lankan dishes you’ll remember long after you return home
