La Pirogue

Full of local flavour

Set on a spectacular mile-long beach, this well-established resort has a great range of facilities.

This friendly and informal resort is on a stunning stretch of beach and backs a shallow lagoon. Its boho-chic style is inspired by traditional fishing boats, with lots of natural wood and thatch. Ideal for families with younger children as well as couples, this resort offers plenty of activities as well as spots for undisturbed serenity. Excellent leisure facilities include a diving centre and spa, plus you can also enjoy access to all facilities at neighbouring Sugar Beach.

Why we love La Pirogue

  • It has a fabulous setting in a coconut grove right on a pristine west-coast beach that’s ideal for lazing and sunset gazing

  • All the rooms are in charming rustic bungalows and come with thoughtful touches for both couples and families

  • With everything from local street food to wine by the glass on-site and access to the adjoining Sugar Beach resort, there’s plenty of variety at mealtimes

  • The imaginative range of activities and experiences includes the chance to help out at the resort’s pioneering coral farm

There are three restaurants and three bars, including the island’s only wine bar, and guests can also eat at the neighbouring sister resort Sugar Beach, so there’s plenty of variety.

Wolmer\  At the main buffet restaurant, you can enjoy an extensive breakfast and international flavours for dinner with Asian, European and Mediterranean options complementing traditional Mauritian cuisine.

Magenta Seafood\  The lunch and dinner menus at this beach-and-poolside restaurant surrounded by water (closed Sunday) feature freshly caught seafood prepared in Mauritian style.

Coconut Café\  Close to the beach and the infinity pool, and open every day from 10am to 10pm, Coconut Café serves up authentic local street food, pizzas and salads, and freshly made juices.

Van Der Stel
The island’s first wine bar offers 60 wines by the glass, with a sommelier to help you choose. Perfect for pre- and post-dinner drinks, it also has cheeseboards and other light meals.

Medine Bar
Open from 10am to 11pm, this is a chic-but-relaxed spot for coffee and cakes or a signature cocktail accompanied by live music and entertainment.

Le Morne\  Enjoy the beach-bar vibe and front-row seats for sunset, late-night drinks and music or a light lunch or afternoon snack at this all-day hangout.

Don’t miss the once-a-week evening beach barbecue at Magenta Seafood, where the delicious food is accompanied by traditional Sega music and dancing.
