Sand-floor bars and thatched open-air restaurants lend a casual and unpretentious feel to this large and popular island.
Despite its size and ample facilities, Meeru retains a tranquil atmosphere. As with most of the larger islands in the Maldives, you’ll be allocated a main buffet restaurant for meals, depending on your room type and location. And while families adore it here, the resort has cleverly zoned adults-only facilities, including one of the main restaurants, a bar, and one of the two pools.
Why we love Meeru Maldives Resort Island
-
There are more facilities than what’s typical for the Maldives, including a nine-hole pitch and putt course
-
A museum exhibits Maldivian artefacts
-
There’s plenty going on in the evening, with live bands, karaoke, and movie nights on rotation
-
Simpler accommodation options are perfect for those wanting to save a little by skipping a sea view and luxury extras
Rooms
Whether you want to save or splurge, there’s an option for everyone at Meeru. Across the choices, the décor is bright and tropical and have a simplistic, accessible type of luxury. Accommodation is dotted around the island; Garden Rooms are simply furnished in single-storey terraces on the island’s interior and for views of the beach and lagoon opt for one of the Beach Villas. The Waterfront Villas here are unique, situated on the beach but straddling the water’s edge. For families, a Two Bedroom Villa is a no-brainer. There is plenty of space, and you’re conveniently close to the pool and restaurants.
Facilities
You’ll be allocated one of two restaurants for buffet-style meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Both feature a Maldivian theme night and a special Sunday breakfast with complimentary sparkling wine. There’s the option to switch things up with three à la carte restaurants. And when it comes to bars, you’re thoroughly spoilt for choice
Farivalhu
Located in the island’s centre, Farivalhu has spacious seating for family dining in a traditional, open-air style with a sand floor and thatched roof.
Maalan
Located in the north of the island, Maalan offers adults breakfast, lunch, and dinner in an authentic Maldivian atmosphere with a sand floor and thatched roof.
Asian Wok
Set over the water, enjoy the theatre of a teppanyaki chef at work.
Dhoni Bar
Open all day until late, Dhoni Bar serves poolside drinks by day, and a cocktail menu by night with a soundtrack of a live band.
Pavilion Bar
A secluded adults-only beachfront bar, open until late.
Uthuru Bar
Enjoy Golden Hour with a glass of bubbles and a shisha.
Asian Wok Bar
Indulge in High Tea in the late afternoon or head here for a sunset aperitif.
A-Mare
The place for authentic Italian dishes including pizzas fresh from the brick oven.
Vilu
Serving contemporary Mediterranean dishes for dinner.
The Reef
The beachside grill specialising in fresh fish specialities including its signature dish - the Seafood Tower for Two.
Asian Wok has the most impressive setting of all the restaurants, where you’ll be delighted by the views and the excellent Japanese dishes in equal measure.
