 Baros Maldives

A Maldivian legend since 1973

An intimate resort providing a complete luxury escape, Baros is where style meets simplicity.

Baros has been on the scene for decades, so it knows a thing or two about exceptional hospitality. Choose to stay on the sandy shore with direct beach access or in an over-water thatched pool villa where you can look out to the lagoon from your private pool. Either way, you’re in for a relaxing retreat.

When it’s time to explore, Baros has a sensational infinity pool, a splendid spa, and a house reef teeming with marine life. If you’re looking for something extra special, the team at Baros know exactly how to put on a show. Possibilities include an exclusive dinner for two on the piano deck, set above the water on the lagoon, or a private sunset voyage to watch dolphins play – but the options are plentiful.

Why we love Baros Maldives

  • Baros is a 25-minute speedboat journey from the airport, so you’ll be on the island before you know it.

  • It’s a well-proportioned resort – neither huge nor tiny, with plenty of activities to keep you occupied, including a house reef for snorkelling.

  • The resident yogi makes Baros the ideal place for yoga fans, with complimentary classes on The Lighthouse Deck.

  • The peacefulness and tranquillity of Baros make it a top choice for honeymooners and romantic escapes.

Baros has given some serious thought to the menus and locations of its dining options. Three restaurants are complemented by well-positioned bars where you can watch the sunset, listen to live music or the gentle lapping of the lagoon. As well as the restaurants, you can plan an extra special dinner on a sunset cruise or on the hotel’s candlelit piano deck. Breakfast at Lime Restaurant is included daily but consider if a meal plan upgrade might suit you best.

The Lighthouse Lounge and Restaurant
Baros’ crowning glory has a lofty elevation and panoramic views. Head upstairs to the lounge with its glorious views over the lagoon and let the sommelier recommend a fine wine before heading to the restaurant below to dine on gourmet cuisine.

Cayenne Grill
Pull up a chair in the open-sided, thatched pavilion that sits on stilts over the lagoon. Cayenne serves a menu of grilled meats, fish, and vegetables complemented by an excellent wine selection.

Lime Restaurant
All-day dining with buffet and à la carte breakfasts and à la carte menus later in the day. Choose a spot on the deck for lagoon views.

Sails Bar
An open-sided cocktail bar with an impressive selection of drinks and snacks and plenty of seating outside under the palms.

There isn’t a view quite like the one from The Lighthouse. Whether you go for dinner or just for sundowners, an evening here promises to be memorable.

What's Included

Breakfast at Lime restaurant.

Upgrade Options

Half Board • Buffet or à la carte breakfast and à la carte dinner at Lime restaurant • 30% discount on food at Cayenne or The Lighthouse (excludes service charge).
Half Board Dine Around (Mixed Meal Plan) • • Buffet or à la carte breakfast at Lime restaurant • Dinner at Lime or Cayenne • 1 dinner at The Lighthouse per 4-night stay • Weekly themed buffets at Palm Garden or other selected venues • 1 bottle of wine per room per day.

Four private spa suites, each with its own steam bath, relaxation area, rainfall shower, and bathtub. Indulge in the Serenity Spa Lavender and Lime Ceremony by TheraNaka or try The Baros Signature Massage which fuses Thai, Balinese, Swedish and hotstone therapy techniques. Look out for complimentary morning yoga on The Lighthouse Deck or take a private class at sunrise or sunset from the resort’s resident yogi. A 24/7 gym has cardio equipment. Fresh towels, fruit, and water are provided post-workout.

The resort has a five-star PADI Dive Centre. A beautiful house reef is just metres from the shore, but there are plenty of nearby dive sites too. A range of dive options is available depending on your level of experience.

Snorkelling in Baros’ house reef is excellent, and you can join a snorkelling safari, take a private lesson, or an identification tour. Kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, water skiing, wakeboarding, and windsurfing are all available. You can rent equipment or take a lesson.

The main infinity pool curves around the edge of Lime deck and overlooks the lagoon.

Baros was officially certified in December 2010 as one of the first resort Eco Dive Centre's in the Maldives. The centre is dedicated to guarding and conserving coral reefs by establishing and implementing environmentally friendly guidelines to protect the marine environment for future generations. • On-site Marine Biologists who can share first-hand information about the currents, tides, and marine life
• The resort does not have single-use plastics, instead using refillable bottles and paper straws
• Guests can learn about the resort’s coral propagation programme, a method of transplantation that encourages corals to establish
• Complimentary twice-weekly 60-minute educational presentations where you can learn more about the Maldives, its terrestrial fauna and flora, coral biology, and dangers to reefs
• Water is recycled and purified to irrigate the gardens
• Villas are fitted with a heat exchange system that warms the water used for bathing

Stratford Upon AvonApril 2025

Baros has truly become our home away from home. We’re currently enjoying our sixth stay—our third this winter—and each visit only deepens our connection to this remarkable island. This 17-night trip still feels too short, a testament to the timeless allure of Baros. Arrival & Departure: The Baros experience begins the moment you land in Malé. Being met by Anees or Rafaal at the airport feels like reconnecting with old friends—warm, familiar, and seamless. Upon arrival at the island, the welcome at the jetty is heartfelt and genuine, with the team greeting you by name and Dayu offering a glass of champagne or fresh juice as a welcome drink. It’s a quiet, unspoken reassurance that you’re back where you belong. And when it’s time to leave, the farewell is just as heartfelt, with staff waving you off and a team member accompanying you through check-in and immigration. That level of care stays with you long after you’ve gone. Accommodation: Over the years, we’ve stayed in a Baros Suite, a Baros Villa, and currently, a Baros Pool Villa. Each has been beautifully designed and immaculately maintained. The Baros Pool Villa, in particular, strikes the perfect balance of outdoor living and privacy, with lush surroundings and peaceful space to unwind. Special thanks to Munavvar, Badhur and Ali, who’ve looked after our villa on different visits—they maintain an incredibly high standard, always quietly efficient and thoughtful. Service: The people at Baros are what truly set it apart. Saeed, our villa host for the last three stays, has been consistently outstanding—warm, attentive, and reliable. He even gifted us a painting he had done himself, a gesture we’ll always treasure. On earlier visits, Siman was equally excellent—one of us had got sunburnt arms and needed a long-sleeved rash vest for snorkelling, and Siman got one from Malé for us the next day. That kind of personal thoughtfulness sums up what makes Baros feel so special. In the restaurants, Hardy and Keeth keep everything running beautifully behind the scenes, while the restaurant team—Abdulla, Ali, Alson, Amed, Cooty, Chandana, Evgenia, Irfan, Kayla, Maria, Massey, Meisi, Naahil, Naseem, Prajakta, Rifuath, Salini, Subarna, Totto and others—make every meal feel both elegant and relaxed. The restaurant staff also consistently remember the little things—your preferred table, how you take your coffee, even what you might like before you ask. It’s this kind of attentiveness that makes every meal feel relaxed and familiar. On our last trip, Kayla surprised us with some beautifully wrapped handmade chocolates to take home, which were absolutely delicious—another small but meaningful gesture that speaks volumes. On our very first visit, we were gifted a beautiful Baros book by Domi, the Guest Experience Manager—a simple but thoughtful gesture that set the tone for all that followed. John Comber, the resort manager, is frequently visible and approachable and always happy to chat. His calm, hands-on leadership sets the tone for the entire team, and it’s reflected in the seamless, thoughtful service that defines Baros. While we’ve mentioned those we’ve interacted with directly, we’re always aware that so much of what makes Baros exceptional happens behind the scenes—gardeners, chefs, engineers, spa therapists, pool cleaners, boat crew, laundry, and maintenance staff. Your work may not always be visible, but its impact is felt in every flawless detail. A huge thank you to you all. We’ve named many of the wonderful people who’ve looked after us over the years, but if we’ve unintentionally missed anyone we regularly interact with, we truly apologise. Every visit is made special by the entire Baros team, and we’re deeply grateful for everything you do. Dining: Dining is consistently excellent. Lime offers fresh, generous breakfasts, lunches and dinners with a perfect sea view. The Lighthouse remains one of the finest dining experiences in the Maldives—refined, and impeccably executed right at the water’s edge. A standout moment is the Piano Deck breakfast—a private table set out on a deck above the lagoon, completely surrounded by water and silence. It’s not just breakfast—it’s an unforgettable, peaceful moment that stays with you long after the plates are cleared. Experiences: We snorkel regularly and always find something new to marvel at on the house reef, which must be the best in the Maldives—easy to access and rich with marine life. On a previous visit, we did the sunset dolphin cruise, and it was magical: calm seas, golden skies, and dolphins swimming alongside the boat. It’s the kind of experience that leaves you speechless. The garden tour led by Shuga was fascinating. Learning about the island’s native plants, herbs, and sustainable practices gave us a whole new appreciation for the environment Baros has so carefully nurtured. We also visited the Serenity Spa during this stay, and it was a wonderfully peaceful experience. Din gave my wife a fantastic deep tissue massage. She is truly an expert at releasing tension in the muscles and is strong enough for very firm pressure but also very gentle if you want light pressure, adapting perfectly to what you want for a relaxing massage. The setting is tranquil and beautifully designed, tucked into the greenery, and the treatments are every bit as refined as the rest of the Baros experience. Final Thoughts: Baros isn’t just a resort—it’s a feeling. A place where the luxury is subtle, the service is seamless, and the sense of belonging is real. After six visits, it still manages to exceed expectations. And as always, we will leave already thinking about our return.

We had a wonderful stay at Baros, the accommodation was amazing. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, in particular was Janangir (Jay) who works in the Sail bar. He was always smiling and happy and so very helpful and kind. He is also a wonderful cocktail maker too. I would also like to mention Rifaau who took care of us during our stay, he was always very responsive to our requests, always polite and kind. A thank you to Sofi also in the Sail bar who was very friendly and helpful. A thank you to Shareef who took care of our daily housekeeping, he was very thorough and polite. Our stay at Baros went far too fast, but we loved it. A big thank you to the Lime staff and the Lighthouse staff for our very enjoyable dinners. A big thank you to all the breakfast staff who were always so cheerful and helpful everyday. The breakfast was truly amazing and such wonderful choices to experience, and it was so relaxing. In fact we would like to say a very big thank you to everyone at Baros for making our experience a wonderful one. We truly loved our stay so very much, and hopefully we may get to return soon. A stay on Baros Island is like no other, the exceptional quality and service throughout was amazing. You feel like you are in your own private paradise. Every member of staff is exceptional but also with a friendly manner, making you feel so welcome and relaxed. It’s a pretty quiet island in the evening too, so if you are looking for ultimate luxury and downtime I highly recommend. We cannot wait to return. Thank you to all the staff, you all played a part in making our stay totally Fabulous…especially our butler Shinta Febrina ❤️
