Philipkutty's Farm

Family run farm fun

Set on a small island in the Keralan backwaters, Philipkutty’s Farm is a wonderful homestay experience.

Built in the 1950s, the farm spreads over 35 acres, growing coconuts, nutmeg, bananas and cocoa. There are also a few cows, hens, ducks and geese. The family are happy to conduct guided tours of the farm and explain how the crops are grown using organic and sustainable methods. There's plenty to do here. Explore the paddy fields by bike or take a walk into the nearby village to see its market and temples. Take a guided bird watching tour before taking a boat ride on the lake to watch the sunset.

Why we love Philipkutty's Farm

  • At sunrise, watch the fishermen go about their day on their kettuvallam boats

  • Take a walk along the canals, keeping an eye out for kingfishers and otters

  • The host’s mother often shows guests how to make some of her favourite recipes

  • Dependent on the weather, in the evenings the sky is illuminated by fireflies

The backwaters can be reached from Cochin airport which is a reached by an 11½-hour flight from the UK (not including stopover time). Munnar is reached by a 6-hour drive from Cochin.
Philipkutty's Farm is located on Puthankayal, a reclaimed island in the backwaters near Kumarakom
