A local idyll on the shores of Lake Vembanad

Set on Kerala’s beautiful backwaters, Coconut Lagoon has a prime location overlooking Vembanad Lake.

Access to the 400-year-old reception building is only by boat. It’s a picturesque setting, where little has changed over the centuries. Canals weave between the cottages and cows graze on the grassy banks. Canoes are available so that you can explore the waterways at your own pace, perhaps taking a picnic lunch with you. Resident naturalists showcase the biodiversity of the backwaters and its flora and fauna and in particular the prolific bird species. Between activities you can cool off in the swimming pool overlooking the lake, or enjoy a massage at the Ayurveda centre.

The backwaters can be reached from Cochin airport which is a reached by an 11½-hour flight from the UK (not including stopover time). Munnar is reached by a 6-hour drive from Cochin.
Coconut Lagoon is a 2-hour 30-minute road transfer from Kochi (Cochin) Airport. The final part of the journey is by a 10-minute boat ride directly to the property

Traditional cuisine, often flavoured with coconut, is served at Aymanam and Ettukettu whilst the catch of the day is on the menu at the Vembanad Grill. Private dining can be arranged amongst the paddy fields. End you evening with a night cap in the Heron’s Pond bar.

Aymanam

Try the ‘curry lunch,’ a six-course extravaganza including beef, pork, chicken and duck served on a banana leaf at Aymanam.

Unwind at the Ayurveda centre where there are plenty of massages using herbal oils. You can join yoga classes, work out with the cardio machines, hire an e-bike or go walking along the canal pathways.

Visit the floating tea shop, explore the butterfly garden, take a canoe ride through the canals, hire an e-bike and explore the pathways or enjoy a cruise at sunset.

The resort has some excellent sustainable policies with extensive recycling practices. You’ll get an idea of their ethos on a guided walk around the organic vegetable garden, the bio gas plant and grounds that support only indigenous flora.
