Pench Tree Lodge

India’s wild tree houses

Pench Tree Lodge's tree houses aren’t just any old tree houses, they have king-sized beds and verandas.

Multiple award-winning Pench Tree Lodge is the ideal base for exploring the nearby national park, home to tiger, sloth bears and the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Due to its wilderness setting, spotted deer, wild boar, jackals and jungle cats have been seen within the lodge grounds. As well as Jeep safaris into the park, guests can experience nature trails on foot or by bike with a resident naturalist guide who will introduce you to the region’s flora and fauna including some of the 100 bird species identified on the property. Photographers may wish to spend time in the Kipling Photography hide, its underground location provides an incredible eye-level view of the visiting wildlife.

Why we love Pench Tree Lodge

  • The two rivers that cross into the farmland attract wildlife such as civets, wild boars and jungle cats that sometimes roam through the grounds

  • To avoid using single-use plastic they buy carrier bags made from old newspapers from the local village

  • Bush dinners under a tree lit by hanging candles and oil lanterns are one of the many highlights here

  • At night when you’re walking back to your room you can sometimes see mongoose and porcupines

Accessible from Nagpur (approx. 2 hours by road) which is a 1½-hour flight from Mumbai; Mumbai is a 9-hour flight from the UK
Set on 40 acres of wilderness, Pench Tree Lodge is a 25-minute drive from the Karamajhiri gate into Pench National Park
