Set in the foothills of the sub-Himalayas, Judge’s Court is located in the village of Pragpur.
Judge's Court was named after the current owner’s grandfather, Jai Lal, who was a successful judge in Shimla. The house was built between 1914 and 1918 using a mix of Hindu, Islamic and European architecture. Set on 12 acres of land with exotic trees including lychee, mango and fig, the views of rolling countryside and the Dhauladhar Mountains are spectacular. Head into the village and see the silversmiths at work in the market, go hiking in the mountains or visit the many religious sites in the area including the Serpent Shrine and Dada Siba - famous for its Kangra paintings.
Why we love The Judge's Court
-
Pragpur has been designated as a heritage village with mud-plastered houses alongside elaborate mansions
-
Admire the views of rolling countryside and the outline of the Dhauladhar Mountains, which are snow-capped in winter
-
Visit in spring and the whole village is in bloom - Prag in Sanskrit means pollen
-
It’s worth a visit to the hotel’s Whiskey Priest Bar as it claims to liquidate any problem

North Indian and local Himachal dishes are served in the restaurant using many vegetables and spices from the hotel’s organic farm. Water is sourced from a mountain spring and the resident cows provide the dairy.
A teacher can be arranged to assist you with yoga and meditation sessions in the garden.
There’s plenty to do in the area, from hiking to fishing, birding and visiting historical sites like Kangra Fort or riding the Kangra Valley Train.
They practise organic farming and a lot of the vegetables and spices served in the restaurant come directly from farm.
