In Angra do Heroísmo’s old industrial district, The Shipyard Angra provides a dose of eye-catching modernity in this World Heritage town. Inspired by the proximity of the historical harbour, the exterior was designed to resemble an old sailing ship, while the minimalist yet warm contemporary interior with its clean-cut timbers, industrial light fittings and a soft-blue-and-white colour scheme provides a chic update on the classic nautical theme. Rooms
The 29 light-filled studios and apartments, all of which have a modern kitchenette, continue the sophisticated maritime theme of the public areas, with wooden features and a palette of blue, grey and white. The Studios are the smallest, with a living area separated from the bed by a vertical timber screen and a terrace. There’s more indoor space in the One Bedroom Apartments and the One Bedroom Superior Apartments, as well as a balcony from which to gaze out over the cityscape. For families, meanwhile, the Two Bedroom Apartments provide room, privacy and comfort, as well as a balcony.
