Saccharum
Wonderful west-coast spot with lots of extra activities
Blissful seafront escape at an elegant resort in Calheta, one of Madeira’s prettiest and sunniest spots.
A great option if you’re looking to explore more of Madeira than just its capital, this slick west-coast hotel is a stone’s throw from the marina and a little man-made beach. Choose from three restaurants from snacks at the poolside at Trapiche, themed buffets at Engenho or signature local dishes at Alambique. The four bars include the eighth floor Fly Lounge Bar with breathtaking ocean and mountain views.

Set amongst the old sugar distillery, head to the à la carte restaurant for signature regional dishes.
Engenho Restaurant
You can enjoy daily themed buffets and coastal views at Engenho Restaurant.
Trapiche Restaurant
Located at the pool, Trapiche is a popular choice – it specialises in pastas, risottos, salads and snacks and also has a kids’ menu.

Serving light meals and cocktails with a sea view.
Calhau Beach Club
Head to the beachfront for drinks, snacks and magical sunsets. For late-night vibes, head here for the DJ events.
Rhum Bar
Recognising the rums that were produced in the old sugar distillery, kick back and relax to music in the Rhum Bar.
Fly Lounge Bar
The popular eighth floor venue for drinks, sunsets and live music on some nights.
As well as Maderian dishes, Alambique Restaurant also offers vegan and Ayurvedic menus.

Saccharum Spa is a fantastic place to unwind and relieve any stress. You can enjoy four treatment and massage rooms, a luxurious sauna and Turkish bath, an ice fountain, sensory showers, a relaxation room and a heated indoor pool plus a Jacuzzi. Entrance to the spa facilities is available at an extra cost but is complimentary for SPE room and suite guests.
There are regular sessions in Hatha yoga, Pilates, t'ai-chi and chi kung. There are squash courts you can use for a fee, as well as a gym which is free to use.
Take part in a local food workshop with a visit to the market and a lesson with the chef. There’s plenty to do in Calheta – we recommend visiting the internationally acclaimed Casa das Mudas Art Centre, trying local delicacies at the various restaurants or just taking a stroll along the seafront.
Spend the day at Calhau Beach Club where you can rent umbrellas and Bali beds or enjoy access to the infinity pool, indoor and outdoor pools.
Saccharum is committed to buying responsibly, supporting regional suppliers, saving energy, using recycled goods and, where possible, purchasing organic and local produce.
Children are welcome at the resort, and can enjoy their own dedicated splash pool as well as an excellent playroom with games and activities including painting.
