Grecotel LUXME White Palace, LUX ME Resort

A blueprint for slow-paced living

Set on a sandy strip of Cretan coastline, this all-white, contemporary-design spot is an idyllic retreat for couples and families alike.

Grecotel reimagines the classic Greek sugar-cube architecture at White Palace, giving it an edgy, contemporary spin. A handful of sail-white buildings are dotted around a saltwater pool with sea views, connected by winding paths criss-crossing manicured gardens. Inside could pass for an art gallery, with light, open spaces and paper-bright walls. The Blue Flag beach is a 1,000 metre stretch of pebbles and sand, and there's one main pool as well as a kids' pool. Speaking of children, there's plenty to keep younger guests happy, and you'll also have access to the nearby Aqua Park, Kingdom of Poseidon, just in case the superb culinary offering, Agreco Farm visits, spa treatments and kids’ club activities aren’t enough to keep the whole brood entertained.

Why we love Grecotel LUXME White Palace, LUX ME Resort

  • The resort is beautifully designed with an all-white theme that runs from outside to in, and occupies an idyllic location on a Blue Flag beach.

  • It’s perfect for families, with the Grecoland kids’ club offering activities for every age bracket (including teens) and a wide range of family-friendly accommodation available.

  • It’s a foodie haven, with six restaurants rustling up everything from Cretan specialities and Greek favourites to Italian classics and Pan Asian specialities.

  • The ‘Luxury Made Easy’ all-inclusive package is excellent, with many premium brand drinks included as well as wine tasting, snacks, all-day dining for kids and an included culinary experience at Grecotel’s Agreco Farm, located in the hills nearby.

The resort is a foodie haven, with six restaurants rustling up everything from Cretan specialities and Greek favourites to Italian classics and Pan-Asian specialities. Throw in four drinking dens and you won’t be left wanting, particularly as many premium brand drinks are included as part of the LUXURY MADE EASY all-inclusive package. There are two wine cellars boasting 150 labels including bio and vegan wines. We love that you can also visit Grecotel's Agreco Farm, which is tucked among olive trees in the hills above the coastal town of Rethimno. Here you can dine at the Taverna, enjoying traditional Cretan dishes using produce grown and raised locally, with an early evening tour of the farm included as part of the experience.

Ventanas Il Mar
With views of Rethymnon Old Town one way and sea panoramas the other, this scenic restaurant serves Mediterranean-inspired buffets on a large stone terrace planted with lilac-hued flowers

The White
Dotted with oversized potted plants and curvaceous cream leather seats, this elegant spot serves a tasting menu showcasing French flavours. A sommelier can give tips on food-and-drink pairings, drawing on a wide selection of bottles from the wine cellar, and the outdoor deck offers enchanting views over the Cretan Sea (over-12s only).

Tavernaki
Nibble on warm-from-the-oven breads dipped in olive oil and shared mezze plates at this laid-back Greek tavern, washed down with ouzo and served on a beautiful waterfront terrace.

Asia White
This chilled hangout serves up Pan-Asian cuisine to diners on an outdoor veranda, perched above the crashing waves. Linger over cocktails in the evening as a DJ spins soft dance music from the deck.

Fico d'India
With a prime poolside location, Fico d’India rustles up Italian favourites for hungry sun-seekers. If you’re more of a grazer, light bites can be delivered straight to your sunlounger, from fresh baguettes to sizzling tortillas. It also has an all-day espresso bar, if you fancy an Italian tipple.

Pâtisserie & Chocolaterie
Indulge in flaky pastries, handmade chocolates and other sweet treats at this French-inspired pâtisserie, located next to the resort’s lounges.

Crêperie & Gelateria
Cool down with a gelato or frappé and tuck into hearty crêpes at this beachfront café, serving every filling and flavour under the sun.

Long Beach Bar
With day-long music and an innovative drinks menu, this chilled-out lounge bar is open throughout the day and occupies an idyllic spot right by the sea.

Wine Library
Enjoy a guided tasting with labels chosen by the Grecotel sommelier in this atmospheric wine cellar.

Family Pool Bar
This casual bar serves drinks and snacks by the pool for the whole family.

Visited as a family of 4 for October half term. Overall very pleasant family holiday. Pros - Large family room with balcony with hanging space/rack for wet swimsuits - Large modern bathroom - Heated main pool - Good selection at buffet each day and food available all day around the pool - Kids club at Grecoland with set activities kids could choose to go to (eg football, ping pong) and no need to pre- book - Lounger service at pool and beach was very prompt and they returned throughout the day to check on you (shout out to Nikolai at the main pool in particular for excellent service) - All day crepes and ice cream - Responsiveness of staff on WhatsApp messaging on app - A la carte restaurants (although difficult to book- have to be quick off the mark 7 days in advance on the app) - Allergens marked on food on the buffet (although nuts was one category which makes it tricky if are only allergic to specific nuts). Pastry chef was very happy to come out each day and discuss what was in each item and even made a special dessert one day for my son. - Wine library in main buffet has a great choice and sommelier is happy to let you try multiple wines. - Kids entertainment each night (8:30pm start which may be late for small kids) - Nice atmosphere in the sunset bar after dinner in the evening with families playing games (no live music) Cons - Only one heated pool so most people congregate near it, making it busy and sun loungers reserved from about 6:30am each day - Family room, whilst a good size, had a sliding door but only a screen/lattice style wall - Needs more hooks in bathrooms to hang towels (only 2 which didn’t allow them to dry during the day) - Small amount of drawers/ hanging space - not really enough for a family of 4 - Very expensive transfer offered with hotel- recommend finding a private provider (which we did) for half price

We stayed for 10 nights at Grecotel Lux Me White Palace. You are welcomed in the open air reception by a cool face towel and welcome drink, checked in and provided with information about the hotel. We booked a swim up Lux Me room. Our first room wasn’t directly on the pool so we asked for a different room. We stayed 1 night in room 1 and were then moved to a room in another block for the remainder of our stay. Rooms are nice enough but dated and not the most modern or luxurious rooms we have stayed in. There is room for improvement. We were joined by family members who had booked sea view junior suites. These rooms were nicer with a more modern walk in shower and lots more storage space and seating areas, along with the lovely sea views. Staff were very pleasant and polite. The grounds and pools are stunning and well maintained. There are a good selection of restaurants with a high standard of food and drinks. We couldn’t manage to pre book before arrival but did manage to book on arrival but usually late sittings. The buffet was very good with a great selection of salads, breads, various cooking stations. Food is not labelled for allergens so you do need to find a member of staff to find out about ingredients. There is lovely wine tasting section within the buffet. We visited the farm which was a really good experience and lots of food to try. Visit is free, you just have to pay and pre book for the coach. The beach is narrow with sand and stones. It is very relaxing sitting listening to the waves while in the restaurants or at the bar.
