 2-night Tortuga Jungle Experience 

Explore an epic environment that can only be reached by air or water: Tortuguero National Park.

The seemingly endless network of natural canals and dense tropical forest landscapes of Tortuguero National Park are your playground on this rustic riverside adventure. Seek out three-toed sloths, catch a glimpse of those ever-cheeky howler monkeys and aim to tick off as many avian sightings as possible as you join well-versed naturalists on included excursions. Head here between July and October for a chance to witness (with minimal impact) the natural wonder that is green sea turtle nesting season.

Recommended itinerary

Day 1

Tortuga Jungle

Arrive at La Pavona Dock at 10am and set off on your one-hour boat trip to the lodge. On arrival, setting in and get your bearings and arrange your excursions: two of a selection of tours are included for each night you stay at the lodge. You could glide the backwaters of Tortuguero National Park on the Natural History boat trip or join a naturalist guide on the Twilight Tour of the private reserve when nocturnal species stir and start their day.

Day 2

Tortuga Jungle

Look out for river otters, manatees and spider monkeys on a kayaking tour (minimum age 9 years) over canals and lagoons, visit Tortuguero Village which is home to a sea turtle conservancy centre and shops selling locally produced crafts, or head up to Tortuguero Hill for far-reaching views of the jungle and the Caribbean Sea. If you want to explore in more depth, there’s wider selection of experiences that are available for a supplement.

Day 3

Tortuga Jungle

Depart the lodge this morning and head back to La Pavona Dock and continue your Costa Rica adventure, wherever it happens to take you.

• Round trip boat transfers between La Pavona Dock to the lodge
• English-speaking local guides for included guided tours
• Two experiences per night at the lodge, chosen from: Natural History Boat Tour (minimum age 7 years), Twilight Tour (minimum age 7 years), Tortuguero Village tour, Kayaking in Tortuguero (minimum age 9 years) and Tortuguero Hill Tour (minimum age 7 years)

• Luggage allowance is limited to 18kg plus hand luggage
• Optional tours are not included and can be booked and paid for locally
• Due to the remote location of the lodge and the dependence on environmental conditions, not all tours may be operating during your stay

Tortuga Lodge
There’s a sense of serenity here with a peaceful hammock-lined pool and charming river-facing rooms, but also effortless access to authentic adventure; sultry jungle trails, river kayaking and turtle nesting tours. Evenings are as special as the days, ending in the open-air restaurant to the flicker of candles and the taste of Caribbean flavours.

Rooms are tropical and charming, all set on the banks of the river with private terraces or balconies and a stash of rubber boots, walking sticks and umbrellas for your rainforest adventures. Papi Brown Downstairs Room are ground-floor rooms with a terrace and views of the gardens and glimpses of the canal; the majority of these rooms have a couple of double beds and an en suite with a shower. Miss Perla Balcony Upstairs Room are on the first floor and feature a balcony that has garden and canal views; most of these rooms have a king-size bed.
