A modern harbourfront hotel that’s close to the capital but perfectly placed for adventure
This is a Caribbean waterfront hotel with a bit of a difference; it’s set on the edge of Dominica’s colourful capital, Roseau, and is built within the remnants of a late 1600s fort. But it’s not old fashioned in the slightest; the interior style is contemporary with a few nods to the past – we particularly love the historic map feature walls in the rooms and suites – and it has plenty of 21st-Century necessities such as a spa, swimming pool and watersports/dive centre.
Why we love Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort
-
Fantastic All-inclusive + Island upgrade.
-
Head to the jetty for watersports, snorkelling trips and diving expeditions.
-
Rooms and suites have a comfy and calming nautical feel and come with mountain or sea views.
-
Explore the surrounding rainforest where adventure activities await.
Rooms
Each of the 73 the rooms and suites at Fort Young make the most of the hotel’s setting that’s a literal stone’s throw from the water. There are cool and cosy Oceanfront Rooms and the slightly more spacious Deluxe Oceanfront Rooms. There are the new Fort Mountain View Room and Fort Ocean View Rooms that look over the mountains or Caribbean Sea. For even more space, choose a Oceanfront Suite where the bedroom and living/dining room are separate.
Facilities
Dining takes place at The Palisades Restaurant. Serving plenty of locally-sourced produce it has a wonderful coastal setting. Head to Warner's Bar for bar snacks, pre-dinner drinks and signature cocktails.
The Palisades Restaurant
Overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the hotel's main restaurant serves breakfasts, lunch and dinner.
Warner's Bar
Located below The Palisades Restaurant, the hotel's bar is a relaxed setting for a Caribbean cocktail and a classic rum punch. Visit on Friday nights for the weekly 'Cocktails and Conversations' evening, a chance to meet fellow guests whilst enjoying happy hour drinks and snacks.
We love the relaxed waterfront setting of The Palisades Restaurant. Serving lots of local dishes it’s a chance to try salt fish stew, Cajun grilled chicken followed by rum and raisin sorbets.

Dominica is an island that needs to be explored to be believed so we highly recommend upgrading to the unique All Inclusive plus Island package which goes way beyond the tried and tested all-in offerings. The hotel runs scheduled trips each day which won’t cost you any extra. Just a couple of these unforgettable experiences include a hike to Middleham Falls followed by a soak in a geothermically heated hot spring and a visit to Morne Trois Piton National Park which is home to two beautiful crater lakes. And that’s not the end to the inclusions; you’ll be able to relax pre or post adventure with a one-hour massage and hour-long yoga session (both available twice per stay, depending on hotel occupancy).
Dominica is known as the 'nature island' and for snorkellers and divers, it is a treasure trove of underwater discoveries. Visit the Shore Diving Project in front of the hotel where coral is being grown or explore the underwater pinnacles to meet the local marine life.
As the name suggests, there’s a focus on diving at Fort Young. In fact, it’s the only full-service dive resort in the country and you can even dive straight off the hotel’s private dock (and unlimited unguided shore dives are included as part of the Island Included plan). Further afield, there are steep drop offs, marine-life rich coral gardens and sea grass beds. The hotel also runs a Shore Diving Project that aims to protect and repair coral as well as educate guests how important a healthy below-the-waves environment is. Visitors between May to October may see turtles swimming and nesting. For whale watchers, sperm whales are resident and killer, humpback and pilot whales are some of the migratory species found here.
The Palisades Restaurant offers a children's menu.
