Indian Pacific
The train
The mighty Indian Pacific navigates the longest stretch of straight railway track in the world, in style and comfort. This is one of the finest ways to experience the diverse landscapes of Australia, following in the footsteps of legendary gold rush prospectors and bush pioneers. And as well as outstanding views, this classic train showcases the country’s fine local produce. A range of immersive off-train excursions are included for both Gold Service and Platinum Service guests.
Perth to Sydney
Departs Sunday
On this eastbound voyage, bid farewell to the Indian Ocean as the train departs Perth, stopping that evening in Kalgoorlie, home to one of the largest open-cut gold mines in the world – The Super Pit. Take the opportunity for a photo op on a super-size dump truck before heading to the Super Pit itself. Wake the next day to sunrise in Rawlinna and the vast Nullarbor Plain opening out before your eyes, with only a few kangaroos dotting the landscape. Later, stretch your legs in the remote ‘ghost town’ of Cook before the train treks across the longest single stretch of straight track in the world. Arrive in Adelaide in the morning for some city exploration before re-board the train and continuing on through the day and night on to the Blue Mountains. Here there's a choice to either continue straight on to Sydney, or depart the train to enjoy the included sightseeing options and later continuing on by regular train to Sydney.
Sydney to Perth
Departs Wednesdays
Say goodbye to the Pacific Ocean as the train trundles out of Sydney, entering the lush heights of the Blue Mountains and crossing into Outback country overnight. Arrive early into the historic mining town of Broken Hill for an inclusive off-train excursion before continuing on to Adelaide later the same day. Here you‘ll have the choice of a leisurely walking tour of the city, a trip to the Barossa Valley for visits to boutique wineries, or a ‘foodies’ tour of the Adelaide Hills – whichever you choose, dinner is included off train. For the next 24 hours, you’ll travel the longest leg of the journey across the Nullarbor Plain with two stops to break the journey. First, the mostly abandoned ghost town of Cook before later arriving into Rawlinna for a traditional Outback dinner under the bright desert stars. The journey continues overnight, arriving finally in Perth after lunch.
