Itinerary overview
Days 1 & 2
Ho Chi Minh City
Start off your trip in Vietnam's largest city that hosts a cityscape that perfectly blends old and new Vietnam in vibrant style. This cosmopolitan metropolis serves up a sensory overload; the buzzing sounds of scooters moving through the traffic, inviting aromas of street food vendors and colourful market stalls, it will truly be an eye-opening experience. For a slower pace of life, you can visit some temples and pagodas which hold the key to Vietnam's heritage. Ho Chi Minh City is the gateway to the mighty Mekong Delta, the most fertile region in the country and the main producer of rice and tropical fruits. Hop on board a small boat and navigate the narrow canals to see how the locals go about their daily life. Stay at Caravelle Saigon.

Days 3-5
Hue
A city that is maybe not as well-known as other cities like Hanoi or Hoi An, Hue invites you to embark on a journey of Vietnam's rich history. The former imperial capital of the Nguyen Dynasty is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set on the Perfume River, a ride on the colourful dragon boat is a must-do experience (optional experience). The Perfume River flows through the heart of the city and will not only give you an insight into the natural wonders of the city, but you'll get a sense of the cultural heritage that this city holds. There are plenty of historical sites to explore, with Hue Citadel, Thien Mu Pagoda and the tombs of former emperors being just a few of the most famous ones. After learning some historical facts, the children can get a bit more hands on with activities at the hotel with Vietnamese hat and dress making or even try some traditional cooking classes if you are travelling with teens that want to expand their cooking skills. Stay at Pilgrimage Village Boutique Resort & Spa.

Days 6-9
Danang
Enjoy some beach days in Danang, home to 18 miles of pristine coastline. Parents can sit back and relax on the white-sandy beaches whilst the younger ones can get involved in more adrenaline pumping water activities. Explore further afield and visit two of Vietnam's eccentric attractions: the five outcrops of Marble Mountain and the Instagram worthy sights of the Golden Bridge in Ba Na Hills resort. Danang is also the perfect base for exploring nearby Hoi An, a small riverside town halfway down the country's east coast. In the lantern-festooned lanes of Hoi An’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, it’s as if time has stood still. Once a prosperous trading port, the cosmopolitan past lives are still present in the shape of a thousand or so carved, tiled and shuttered Vietnamese wooden houses, ornate Chinese temples and a 400-year-old Japanese bridge. Get your craft on in a Lantern making class; you'll get to choose your silk of choice, learn how to glue it all together and smooth out creases to make it look like the professional ones dotted around the city. Stay at Pullman Danang Beach Resort.

Days 10 & 11
Hanoi
Next up is the endearing capital city of Hanoi, a chaotic city which can feel frenetic at times but it's all part of its charm. Looking past the hustle and bustle, you can peel back the layers and discover the ancient streets that were named after the crafts that have been made by locals for decades. The best way to experience the city is through its street food, with inviting smells tempting you around every corner. The longer you wander the hidden alleyways, the more quirkier spots you'll discover. You can put your own culinary skills to the test in a traditional Vietnamese cooking class at KOTO restaurant. KOTO does incredible work within the community providing hospitality training for local street kids. You'll collect all the fresh ingredients from the local market and work alongside a current trainee at the restaurant, giving you time to learn more about their story, before tucking into your culinary creations. Stay at Melia Hanoi.

Day 12
Halong Bay
The mystical natural wonder of Halong Bay is on many peoples' bucket lists when visiting Vietnam. Hop onboard the traditional junk boat, Bhaya Premium Cruise, for one night and set sail on the emerald green waters. Marvel at the rugged limestone islands that are engulfed in luscious greenery, it truly is picture perfect. With just three to seven cabins, these smaller boats are perfect for a more personal service experience. Day 1 on the boat, you'll have the opportunity to go kayaking, or you can opt to relax on a private beach. Following dinner, you can try your hand at squid fishing, using age-old techniques. Then on day 2, you'll visit Sung Sot Cave, the largest of the many caves and you can get more of an up-close look at the stalactites and stalagmites in the limestone rock.

Days 13 & 14
Hanoi
Head back to Hanoi for one night (stay at Melia Hanoi) and take the opportunity to sample the wonderful flavours at your favourite street-side joint for one last time. Private transfer to airport for onward travel.
