Explore a fascinating side of Vietnamese history in the countryside to the north of Ho Chi Minh City. For this visit, you’ll travel by private transfer straight to Cu Chi, where you’ll learn all about these extraordinary relics of the country’s past. You’ll hear about the challenging conditions in this three-level underground “village” at the time, from the darkness and foul-smelling air to invasions of snakes and scorpions, but also the ingenuity that enabled the creation of subterranean hospitals, kitchens and wells. Vietnam in January
Vietnam in January is cooler than average, with temperatures around 17˚C in the north. Temperatures are slightly higher in the centre and it’s still warmer further south, but much less humid than the summer months.
Vietnam in February
February is the month in between winter and spring in northern Vietnam. Halong and Hanoi are generally cool and sunny but with the occasional colder day. This is a good time to visit the south, with consistent sunshine in Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang on the coast.
Vietnam in March
March is a good month to travel to Vietnam, with consistently pleasant temperatures. It’s a typical spring month in the north, with sunny days and occasional drizzly ones. There’s minimal rainfall in the south but temperatures begin to rise from the end of the month.
Vietnam in April
Temperatures and rainfall gradually begin to increase in Vietnam in April, with an average of around 24˚C and short downpours at night up north. The hot season is now on its way in central areas such as Danang, while temperatures down south in Ho Chi Minh City can surpass 30˚C. Skies are clear despite a higher chance of rainfall, with the south coast beaches and Phu Quoc Island in particular ideal destinations during this time.
Vietnam in May
May marks the beginning of Vietnam’s low season, and is still a good month to travel. There are still dry days and good conditions in the north, while the central areas and beaches around Hoi An, Danang and Nha Trang continue to enjoy higher temperatures of about 30˚C. The likelihood of rain increases in the south, but the occasional downpour helps keep temperatures down.
Vietnam in June
You can expect greater humidity and rain in the north in June, making trekking unadvisable at this time. Hoi An tends to be hot and dry, so make sure you keep hydrated if you’re visiting the city at this time. The south is now well into its wet season, albeit with dry and bright days averaging 28-29˚C.
Vietnam in July
Vietnam weather in July is more mixed. You’ll find high temperatures and rainfall in the north, with more regular downpours in places like Hanoi. Trekking is again unadvisable. Blue skies continue to show in central regions like Danang and Nha Trang — with the odd shower also more likely — and the wet season is in full flow in the south.
Vietnam in August
The north of Vietnam is well into its summer period now, with temperatures up to 30˚C; frequent rain and sometimes even storms makes trekking unadvisable. The centre of Vietnam is still hot and mainly dry, albeit with the chance of the odd shower, with good weather continuing on the east-coast beaches. While the south is now firmly into its wet season, showers are not torrential and you can still expect plenty of bright, dry and warm daylight hours. Green Turtle hatchlings can be seen from mid-August on Con Dao beaches.
Vietnam in September
Wet weather becomes more frequent in certain areas by the end of September; you can expect greater rainfall in Hoi An and Hué in the centre, while the beaches of Nha Trang will also be affected. It’s still summer in the north with average temperatures of 28˚C and some rain; the south remains wet but can still be bright and dry during the day as well, with rainfall gradually starting to decrease by the end of the month.
Vietnam in October
Vietnam weather in October begins to change – rainfall in the centre is now close to its peak, with the potential for heavy storms and flooding, particularly in Hoi An. Further south the beaches of Nha Trang will be wet, with around half their annual rainfall coming in October and November. In the north, temperatures and rainfall begin to drop as the wet summer period draws to a close, with the relatively cooler winter (average temperatures of 26˚C) on the way. In the south, Phu Quoc and Con Dao begin to see more sunshine in the later part of the month.
Vietnam in November
November is one of the best times to visit Vietnam, with dry, cooler weather and temperatures of 24˚C in the north; light and infrequent rainfall also means trekking is perfectly feasible now. It’s a different story in the centre of the country with rainfall at its peak, although Hué should be cooler than both Danang and Hoi An, where temperatures can reach 23- 25°C. Now is also a good time to visit the south though – beaches in Mui Ne, Phu Quoc and Con Dao enjoy blue skies and lovely warm weather in November.
Vietnam in December
Good conditions continue in both the north and south. December is one of the driest months of the year in Hanoi, with little rain and moderate temperatures of around 19-20˚C in the north. Phu Quoc is the place to be in the south for sunny beach weather, and if you go in land to Ho Chi Minh you can expect low humidity and pleasant temperatures of 26°C. In early December there’s still a chance of stormy weather in Vietnam’s centre, but temperatures remain moderate and rainfall decreases in Nha Trang by the end of the month.
