Staying at Fish River Lodge is like standing on the edge of eternity – it’s the only lodge located right on the rim of the world’s second-biggest canyon.
What guests love most are the show-stopping views; there’s an incredible sense of space and you can lose yourself in the scenery. The canyon inspired the lodge’s design, with dry stone walls that blend into the environment. The main lodge features cosy fireplaces that you can dine beside.
You can spend your days exploring the canyon with the expert guides. Driving down there is extraordinary – you’re surrounded by a 500-million-year-old geological wonder.

Unique experiences
Fish River Canyon sundowners and scenic drives
It’s not until you drive down into Fish River Canyon that you get a true sense of its size. As you descend into the world’s second-biggest canyon, you can clearly see the different layers of sedimentary rock, the colourful quartz and limestone minerals. You'll see the elephant skin rock weathering and the ancient petroglyphs left behind by San hunters.
Hiking in Fish River Canyon
Adventurous travellers will love hiking down into the depths of Fish River Canyon. You'll be guided on a full-day trek through the aptly-named Jelly Legs Gorge, a trail that takes you past epic viewpoints. It’s a challenging hike that involves traversing rock-strewn slopes and scrambling over boulders, but the reward is getting to experience the world’s second-largest canyon.
Facilities
Fish River Lodge is also known for its friendly, personal service and exceptional cuisine, which includes three-course dinners with Namibian meats and locally-grown produce.
The lodge offers a range of hikes along the rim and into the canyon, drives and fat-bike canyon tours, complete with picnics and perhaps a swim in a natural rock pool.
Fish River Lodge participates in the Namibian Eco Awards Programme and uses solar energy for power and has introduced water-saving measures.
