 Mara Serena Safari Lodge

Sweeping savannah views

This characterful Maasai-style lodge lies at the centre of the Mara Triangle.

Perched high on the saddle of a central Mara hill, the Mara Serena has some of the best views in the reserve, reaching all the way down to the Mara River, and is superbly situated for migration watching in particular (typically from July to October).

Created to echo the feel of a traditional Maasai manyatta – a cluster of domed huts encircled by a boma of brushwood – this is a unique lodge, with twin rows of individual rooms and a rock-surround swimming pool. There's also a small spa, gym and gift shop.

Why we love Mara Serena Safari Lodge

  • The views from the rooms, restaurant and even the gym are far reaching across the wildlife-rich Mara plains.

  • From your room you might spot mongoose, warthogs and baboons, with larger wildlife in the distance

  • Every Thursday and Sunday, you can pick up some souvenirs at the Maasai market held at the lodge

  • Soak up the views by day, and in the evening take a seat around the campfire for post-dinner drinks

The relaxed Maasai-inspired dining room serves international dishes with an emphasis on regional specialities, and is linked to a vibrant bar. For a special occasion, we recommend a Hippo Pool breakfast where a chef prepares your meal on the banks of the Mara River.

What's Included

Lodge Package • Breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining room or outdoors • 2 shared game drives per day • Airstrip transfers • Park fees.

At the Maisha Spa, treatments are tailored to your needs. The Signature Oringa Massage uses a euculyptus scented wooden baton to apply pressure to improve blood circulation. The views across the plains and Mara River are a good incentive if you want to have a workout at the lodge's gym.

Head out on daily game drives in search of the Big Five. A night safari may bring you closer to some of the action when big cats predators are on the prowl. If you are feeling energetic, the trek up the Ololoolo Escarpment is rewarded with far-reaching views across the Mara Plains.

As part of their sustainability programme, guests can see how energy is conserved with a tour of the solar plant. The lodge assists with habitat conservation and guests can leave a lasting legacy by planting a tree. They are also heavily involved in supporting the local community with cultural engagements.
